In Korea, saju (사주, "four pillars") is part of everyday life. Friends compare their charts over coffee in Seoul's saju cafés, couples check their gunghap (compatibility) before marriage, and many people look up their yearly fortune at the Lunar New Year.
Your birth year, month, day, and hour each become a pillar of two characters: a heavenly stem and an earthly branch. Together they are your saju palja.

Yes. Saju is based on the sun's position and the calendar cycle, so it works anywhere. We convert your local birth time using your birthplace's historical time zone and daylight saving rules, then correct for true solar time.
In saju, the year changes at Ipchun (Start of Spring, around February 4), not on January 1 or the Lunar New Year. If you were born in January or early February, you may belong to the previous year's animal.
Western astrology reads planets in the zodiac signs. Saju reads the balance of the Five Elements and the cycles of time in your birth moment, and it is especially known for its ten-year luck cycles that show the seasons of your life.
